The vendor's [current product page](https://www.awesomescreenshot.com/?ref=snagitpro.com) links to browser extensions, a Mac app, a Windows app, and an iOS app, and its help center has separate support sections for the Windows and Mac desktop products. The distinction affects what you can capture. In the extension, normal webpage options include Visible Part, Selected Area, and Full Page, and the extension also provides an Entire Screen & App Window route. The desktop applications cover work outside the browser and give you a fallback when browser security blocks an extension from touching a page. Don't choose based on the label "extension" or "desktop app." List the surfaces you actually capture: - public webpages and web apps; - browser settings and extension pages; - Windows or Mac desktop applications; - long pages with sticky or dynamic sections; - recordings that need a selected area, camera, or system audio. The vendor says Full Page and Selected Area can be unavailable on extension stores, browser settings, other extension pages, and similar restricted URLs. It captures regions, windows, applications, and scrolling content, then keeps the source in its Editor and Library. That suits recurring desktop procedures — an accounting application, a settings panel, a virtual machine, a helpdesk client, and a browser page can all feed the same editing and organization workflow. Neither route guarantees a perfect capture of every surface. Protected media, permissions, hardware acceleration, nested scroll areas, sticky elements, and dynamically loaded content can all interfere. Test the exact application and page that matters instead of trusting a feature-table checkmark. ## Full-page capture: both can scroll a webpage Awesome Screenshot supports full-page capture in Chrome-compatible extensions, Safari, and Firefox, using the Full Page or Capture Full Page command in its official instructions. Snagit supports vertical and horizontal scrolling capture and can use panoramic selection when automatic scrolling does not fit the page. The difference is not "one can scroll and one cannot." It's the range of content and the work after capture. Awesome Screenshot is the direct route for a browser page that will be marked, downloaded, or shared. Snagit fits a longer documentation chain that may include desktop windows, reusable annotations, OCR, a maintained source file, and later revisions. Very long captures deserve their own check. Awesome Screenshot's support center says long screenshots saved locally can be split into multiple images, while PDF can preserve a complete long result; cloud mode can keep most long pages as one file, but extremely long pages can still come out incomplete. That makes it practical for pointing at a layout defect, hiding one field, or writing a short note before download or sharing. Current Awesome Screenshot support also references a **Take Screenshot & Extract Text** action. That's evidence of an extract-text route, but the public pages I checked did not give a reliable plan-by-plan limit for every extension and desktop app. If OCR is decisive for you, test the current product route and plan with your actual text before buying. Snagit documents text recognition as a core editing path: it can copy text from a screenshot and can edit or remove recognized text inside an image. A keyed link is an access control, not a reason to ignore what's in the capture. Revoke it when the review ends. The annualized list-price examples work out to $60 for Basic and $72 for Professional before tax when paid on the annual schedule. The monthly equivalents would total $72 and $96 over twelve unchanged months.
