Recent video builds use Open In, where None skips the preview. ## Stop Editor opening after image captures 1. Open **Snagit Capture**, not just Snagit Editor. 2. Select the **Image** tab. 3. Turn off **Preview in Editor**. 4. Choose an output before you test. Turn on **Copy to Clipboard**, select **File** under Share, or choose another destination you trust. 5. Take one test capture using the red Capture button in that window. TechSmith's [automatic-save instructions](https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/articles/203731148-Automatically-Save-Images-to-a-Specific-Format-During-Capture?ref=snagitpro.com) use the same combination recommended here: Preview in Editor off, File selected as the share destination, and a saved preset for repeat use. The File settings let you pick the folder, filename pattern, and image format. Here's the catch. Turning preview off doesn't, by itself, guarantee a PNG or JPG file. It only stops the automatic Editor preview. Clipboard, File, the Library, and other share destinations control what happens next. Test the complete path before you rely on it for work. One caution from me. If a screenshot contains a password, customer record, private message, or another sensitive detail, don't send it straight to its final destination without review. A no-Editor workflow is fast, but it removes your normal chance to crop, redact, and confirm the image first. ## Use Open In: None for video captures The Video tab is easy to misconfigure because current releases don't use the same label as image capture. In Snagit for Windows 2026.1.0, TechSmith replaced the Video-tab Preview in Editor toggle with **Open In**. Its [Windows 2026 version history](https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/articles/42674936732685-Snagit-Windows-2026-Version-History?ref=snagitpro.com) defines three choices: Snagit Editor, None, and Camtasia Editor. Pick **None** and the video saves to the Library with no preview. On Mac, TechSmith brought in the same control with Snagit 2025.3.0, as recorded in the [Mac 2025 version history](https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/articles/37938520706957-Snagit-Mac-2025-Version-History?ref=snagitpro.com). If your installed build still shows Preview in Editor instead of Open In, use whatever label your build shows and turn the preview off. First, repeat the test and note exactly how you start the capture. TechSmith's [capture-mode documentation](https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002743452-Capture-Modes-in-Snagit-Windows?ref=snagitpro.com) shows that Snagit can pull settings from different places — which is exactly why the setting can seem to be ignored. ### You used a preset or preset hotkey A named preset keeps its own saved options, so changing the Image tab doesn't rewrite every preset. Select the preset you actually use, edit it so Preview in Editor is off, save it, and test with the same preset button or hotkey. ### You used the main OneClick button On Windows, the main OneClick capture button uses documented default settings, including All-in-One capture and Preview in Editor enabled. If you want a predictable no-Editor workflow, pick your named preset from OneClick instead of pressing its main button. Turning off the widget only hides that launcher; it doesn't change a preset. ### You changed Image but recorded Video Image and Video settings are separate. Check Open In on the Video tab in recent builds — if it's set to Snagit Editor, the image setting can't override it. ### You changed the Capture window but used another launcher The red button and the global capture hotkey use the current Capture-window settings. A preset hotkey uses the preset. OneClick can use its default or a selected preset. Snagit can watch for screenshots copied by system tools and open them for editing. Open Snagit Capture preferences and look on the Capture tab for wording such as **Open screenshots copied from system tools**. In TechSmith's [TechSmith's 2024 help documentation](https://www.techsmith.com/learn/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Snagit-Help-2024-EN.pdf?ref=snagitpro.com), the equivalent setting is described as opening system screenshots and videos in Snagit. Turn that preference off, then take a fresh system screenshot to confirm. The exact label and menu path can vary by operating system and Snagit build, which is why I put this branch after identifying the trigger. Don't disable Snagit's global capture hotkey when the actual problem is system-screenshot import — those are separate settings. ## Build a reliable no-Editor preset A preset is the cleanest way to have it both ways: Editor when you need it, a fast clipboard or file capture when you don't. 1. Open the Capture window and choose **\+ > New Preset**. 2. Select **Image** and the capture selection you use, such as Region or Window. 3. Turn **Preview in Editor** off. 4. For paste-ready captures, enable **Copy to Clipboard**. For automatic saving, choose **File** and configure its folder and format. 5. Save the preset with a clear name such as **Clipboard, No Editor** or **PNG to Project Folder**. 6. Assign a dedicated hotkey and test it twice. Keep a second preset with Preview in Editor on for captures that need arrows, text, cropping, or redaction. A capture may still appear in the Library even when Editor never opens. - **Start at login:** Stopping Editor after capture does not stop Snagit Capture from starting with Windows or macOS. - **Save and Close:** Preventing Editor from opening is different from closing Editor after you save an edited file. - **Editor launch failures:** If Editor will not open even when you launch it manually, use the [Snagit Editor won't open troubleshooting guide](https://snagitpro.com/snagit-editor-wont-open/).
