Its current guidance says to close Snagit and copy the capture-folder contents; native SNAGX captures from Snagit 2022 or later retain metadata during transfer. Keep the active copy on the internal drive and verify the Library location in Snagit rather than relying on an assumed path.

Restore without overwriting the wrong Library

Before you restore anything, back up the current state — even if it looks empty or damaged. An “empty” Library may just be pointing at the wrong folder, and overwriting it can destroy new captures created after the problem began.

1. Quit Snagit.
