Start with the file you need to deliver. An unedited webpage archive may need no paid editor. A support task that combines an application window, a numbered explanation and a narrated clip needs more than a browser-page export.
Browser availability: Chrome, Edge and Firefox
In its August 11 incident report, GoFullPage said a copyright-related issue caused the original Chrome listing to be removed and some installed copies to be disabled or removed. The vendor said this was not a security issue. That is its explanation of the incident, not an independent security certification.
As checked on September 19, the regular Chrome listing, Edge listing and Firefox add-on are available. In a September 14 update, GoFullPage said the standard Chrome version had been restored and recommended it for the most stable experience.
The separate Chrome beta listing remains an optional early-feature channel. Verify the publisher, extension identity and approved browser route before installation. Do not disable browser protections or bypass your organization's extension policy. Availability in three stores does not guarantee identical behavior on every page or managed browser.
How GoFullPage captures a webpage
The GoFullPage FAQ describes scrolling down and across the current webpage, combining the views, then opening the result in a new tab. Download PNG or JPEG, or choose a PDF page size. Its documented PDF Size setting, full image, produces a single tall page; Premium smart page splitting is a different option for dividing the output.
Let the page load before capturing. Scroll through lazy-loaded sections, return to the start and use the browser width you intend to document. Close an obscuring popup only if it is not part of what you need to record. Note the URL, date, viewport and any changed or expanded state separately when those details matter. A date label alone does not establish the authenticity or completeness of a record.
The vendor documents support for many fixed elements, inner scrollers and iframes, but lists exceptions. Browser PDF viewers do not expose the document for its scrolling capture. Custom JavaScript scrolling can fail, and scrolling loses a hover state even when capture starts from a shortcut. Very large pages can split into several images; the FAQ warns that captures requiring ten or more parts may fail. This is a warning from the older FAQ, not a universal size threshold.
Check the downloaded file before calling a result low-resolution. GoFullPage initially fits a long image into its preview; its FAQ says the download retains full resolution. Inspect text at actual pixel size and review every segment. A small preview and an incomplete or blurry source are different problems.
How Snagit scrolling capture differs
TechSmith documents vertical, horizontal and manual scrolling capture. Manual capture lets you select a region and scroll it yourself when automatic arrows are unavailable or unsuitable. The result opens in Snagit Editor. That adds control, but does not guarantee that a difficult page will stitch correctly.
Snagit runs on Windows and Mac and can capture application windows as well as browser content. Regions, window captures, menus, delays and presets are useful when a task extends beyond one webpage. A horizontally scrolling spreadsheet inside a desktop app is a different target from a wide table in a browser; GoFullPage's horizontal page capture does not make it a general desktop capture tool.
Try the actual application before buying. In one ServiceNow capture discussion, a user reported failures with both tools on a customized form and later used a printer-friendly view. Other replies described different results, so treat this as a page-specific example rather than a guaranteed workaround.
Free capture versus paid editing
You can save an unedited GoFullPage capture without Premium. The paid boundary appears when you use its premium crop or annotation tools and download the edited result. If you only need a basic export, do not mistake the paid editor screen for a charge on every PNG or PDF download.
The Basic/Premium feature table puts cropping, URL and date labels, smart PDF splitting, blur, text, highlighting and priority support in Premium. These features help annotate a page record. OCR, a click-sequence guide builder and screen-video recording are not listed in that compared feature set.
Snagit's editing tools include text recognition, Smart Move, Simplify, Smart Redact, templates and image combining. Check feature availability in your installed version. Step Capture records clicks and drags, but not text entry or keyboard shortcuts as steps. Add missing instructions and inspect the generated sequence. Recognition and automatic redaction still need review.
Permissions, local storage, and privacy
GoFullPage's Chromium permissions guide describes contextual requests for Downloads and iframe capture. The iframe request can include tabs, webNavigation and access to all URLs. The vendor says it operates on the current tab when activated, not during ordinary browsing. Denying iframe access can prevent capture on that page; it is not merely a promise to omit the embedded frame.
Do not apply a blanket no-permissions claim to the new Firefox version. Its Mozilla listing requires access to gofullpage.com and www.gofullpage.com, lists optional download and navigation permissions, and declares optional technical and interaction data. Review the actual browser prompt and organization policy. Storefront declarations are not an independent examination of extension code.
The FAQ describes Chromium screenshot history as local browser storage using HTML5 filesystem and IndexedDB. It warns that deleting history or uninstalling removes those stored images. Download needed, authorized copies first; exported files remain separate. Uninstalling does not cancel Premium. Stop a trial or disable subscription renewal through your account instead.
Local image history does not mean the whole service collects no data. GoFullPage's privacy policy, dated March 2019, describes account, payment and service-analytics information; it does not fully document the new Firefox build. Use synthetic examples for evaluation. For secrets, prefer removing the field or using a fully opaque cover, then inspect the flattened output and metadata. A convincing blur or a vendor feature name is not proof of safe removal.

GoFullPage Premium is listed at $12 USD per year before tax and foreign exchange. The advertised $1 per month is an annual equivalent, not a separate monthly billing quote. Its seven-day trial converts to a paid subscription unless canceled. The FAQ says you can cancel during the trial from Account; after payment, disabling renewal leaves access through the current paid term.
TechSmith's US student-offer page shows $39 USD/year as Snagit's reference value and advertises a $20 USD/year student offer for eligible students in listed countries. TechSmith's current trial pages disagree on the duration: the student page says 14 days, while the Snagit activation guide says 15 days. Check the current trial screen and account terms before relying on either figure. Read the download terms before evaluating it at work because trial use has license restrictions. Use appropriately licensed software for a work pilot.
How to choose for a team rollout
Review a representative sample of recent tasks. Separate unedited webpage records, annotated reviews, application captures, maintained instructions and video. Consider GoFullPage for the first group. Compare Snagit when the same people repeatedly need its desktop editor or other capture types.
For an extension rollout, record the approved publisher, extension ID, browser, permissions, export location and retention rule. Test the current official route on a managed device. If the required access is not approved, choose another authorized capture method rather than bypassing policy. Check billing separately from installation or removal.
For Snagit, create only the presets that support your actual work. A support preset might capture a region; a documentation preset might open the editor for review. Keep sources only when retention is authorized, and inspect automatic sharing destinations. Separate video tasks from still-image tasks so that a user does not accidentally record more than intended.
In a small pilot, record failed captures, correction effort, files that require a second tool and permission problems. Ask another person to use the delivered file, not just look at the editor preview. Compare those results with the license cost before committing the team.
A difficult-page test
- Use synthetic content and appropriately licensed software. Choose a long page with lazy content, a fixed header, an embedded frame and a wide section.
- Record the original page state. Remove private test data and decide which menus or expanded sections must appear.
- Load the required content, return to the start and capture at the intended browser width with each supported automatic method.
- Try Snagit manual scrolling on the same authorized page. Capture a hover-only control separately if scrolling dismisses it; do not expect a delay to preserve it through a full-page scroll.
- Download PNG and PDF where supported. Check an unedited GoFullPage export before evaluating its paid editor.
